Are you searching for an event registration system for your nonprofit organization? In this success story, we learned about the Oklahoma Link Coalition and how they use Event Smart to help with their event registration process and event management.
Who is the Oklahoma link Coalition?
”The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”
(Mahatma Gandhi)
The Oklahoma Link Coalition is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2014 to provide a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach to issues related to animal cruelty and the larger impact to the community.
The “Link” refers to the connection between animal cruelty, domestic violence, elder abuse, child abuse, and other forms of interpersonal violence.
Since organizing, the Coalition has grown and evolved and membership now includes representatives from over 70 organizations, united in the goal of making Oklahoma safer for both humans and animals.
What were things like before Event Smart
The “Link” as they call their organization for short, was a fairly new program and prior to using Event Smart for their ticketing and event registrations, they had never really put on events prior to the conference where they first used Event Smart. After reviewing other options that seemed to cost more, they eventually decided on Event Smart for their conference registrations.
We asked Kathleen Romero, with the Link, why they chose Event Smart:
“I did a lot of research to find a platform that wouldn’t charge us an arm and a leg. It took time to find a platform that could do everything we would need, at little to no cost, with good support in case we ran into issues along the way. Which we did!
Other platforms charge an outrageous amount, and Event Smart provides everything you need for nothing or almost nothing. For our first event, we ended up purchasing a few add-ons based on our needs, but it was so great to just pay for those individually as needed, rather than having to upgrade to a “higher tier” for a big fee, when we only needed one or two specific features.
I would say the biggest selling point is the support – any questions I had, I got an immediate and thorough response.”
When they found out that Event Smart can provide a solution for them as a smaller organization with little funding and events that are on a smaller scale than many other larger organizations, they were surprised to find such a great solution to meet those specific needs. Kathleen explained that is what was most surprising when they found Event Smart, “most organizations spend a lot of money on other event platforms. I realize that for larger-scale events, setting up a contract with a platform to handle that end of things is beneficial, but for smaller nonprofits, projects, or volunteer organizations on a budget, Event Smart can provide what you need.”
How the Oklahoma Link Coalition uses Event Smart
The Link organization utilizes their Event Smart registration solution to manage online registrations for their annual conference and to handle their schedule of “Lunch and Learn” sessions available to educate the community about their programs and the “Link” between animal cruelty and its impact within society.
For their annual conference they have a very simple registration workflow where they present just one ticket option for the conference registration. Though it is possible in Event Smart to set up multiple ticket options for your event, they keep things simple and just ask the user to purchase a “conference ticket”.

After the user selects their ticket options they will then proceed to the registration form where they enter any requested details.
Here you can see how they use the Event Smart customizable registration forms to collect specific data from their attendees that helps them to understand their constituent base and ultimately to better serve their members.
After completing the registration form the user will then proceed to payment options as shown below. The Link uses PayPal to accept online payments for their event registrations.
